An NFL Flag Come and Try Day will be held on Saturday 26th September, from 10:00am-2:00pm, at Central Energy Trust Arena. This free event is being hosted by Jacqui Elmsly, NFL Flag New Zealand Coordinator, alongside a number of experienced NFL New Zealand coaches.

Wig Wednesday 16th September

A reminder that this Wednesday, 16th September, our kura is participating in the national Wig Wednesday campaign! Tamariki are invited to come to school in mufti and wear their wildest, most creative wig. We ask that all students bring a gold coin donation, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Child Cancer Foundation to support their incredible work.

Important Pānui: Ngā Iti Rearea Final Performers Selection

Tēnā koutou e ngā whānau o Ngā Iti Rearea,

We want to start by acknowledging the incredible dedication and hard work all of our tamariki have put into their kapa haka journey this year. As you are aware, we selected our initial group of ākonga to continue trialling earlier in the year.

This coming Thursday, 17th of September, we will be making our final performer selection for the upcoming competition.

Please know that if it were up to us, we would have every single one of our tamariki standing proud on that stage! However, strict competition rules mean we can select a maximum of 40 performers per group.

We understand that missing out on the final selection can be disappointing, so we want to ensure every tamaiti still has a meaningful pathway forward to celebrate their hard work. Tamariki who are not selected for the final 40 will have two options:

Perform with Te Kapa Haka o Tirohanga: They can choose to perform with our second kapa. Luckily, because all of our tamariki already know the material, transitioning to this group will be a seamless and positive experience.

Remain as a Reserve for Ngā Iti Rearea: If they prefer not to join the second kapa, they are more than welcome to continue attending Ngā Iti Rearea trainings and remain on standby as a reserve in case a position becomes available before the competition.
We deeply appreciate everyone’s understanding and ongoing tautoko as we navigate this selection process. It is never an easy decision for our kaiako, but we are incredibly proud of the growth and passion we have seen in all our ākonga.

Please read the following information carefully, as tickets for this event are expected to sell out very quickly.

Ngā Iti Rearea Wānanga Next Week (Final for Term 3)

Tēnā tātou e te whānau o Ngā Iti Rearea,

Next week is our final wānanga for Term 3. We are looking forward to another great couple of days with our tamariki.

Just a quick update regarding our venues for next week. Unfortunately, the marae is unavailable on Friday, 18 September. As a result, our wānanga will be split across two locations (the marae on Thursday and school on Friday). The general organisation will remain the same as our previous noho.

Timings and Locations:

Thursday, 17th September: Te Hotu Manawa o Rangitāne (Maxwells Line). Drop-off at 8:45 am, pick-up at 3:00 pm.

Friday, 18th September: Monrad Tirohanga (School). Normal school timings, 9:00 am – 2:30 pm.

Important Drop-off Instructions for Thursday: To help us manage traffic flow issues going into the marae, please drop your tamariki off at the Maxwells Line gate no earlier than 8:45 am. We ask that whānau do not drive into the marae grounds; the tamariki will need to walk from the gate to the marae.

What to bring:

Comfortable mufti clothing for training
A water bottle and snacks (School lunches will still be provided)
For the girls: A lavalava, belt, and poi

Free Online GP Visits for Tamariki

With illnesses currently impacting schools and health services experiencing high demand, we want to share an important health update with you. Online GP care is now completely free for all ākonga up to and including the age of 13!

How the Online GP Service Works
Appointments take place via phone or video app.
You can access an online doctor at any time, including after hours and on weekends.
The online doctor can prescribe medicine and send the prescription directly to your nearest pharmacy.
For older students aged 14 to 17, or for those who hold a Community Services Card, appointments are available at a low cost.
To learn more or to find an online doctor, you can visit healthnz.govt.nz/OnlineGP.

Other Healthcare Options for Your Whānau
We have attached a handy poster to this notice outlining some other excellent healthcare options if you cannot see your regular GP. These include:

Healthline (0800 611 116): Provides free 24/7 health advice over the phone from nurses and paramedics. They have Māori clinicians available on weekdays from 8 am to 8 pm, and you can even send photos or videos to help explain your symptoms.

Pharmacies: Your local pharmacy can offer advice on minor concerns like colds and itchy skin, help with eye or urinary infections, and may be able to provide a few days of emergency medication if you run out.

Urgent Care Clinics: If you need to see someone in person, these clinics are for urgent medical issues like sprains, breaks, bad cuts, and head knocks. Some clinics offer free appointments for children and low-cost appointments for Community Services Card holders.

REMINDER: Ngā Iti Rearea Wānanga This Week!

Here is a quick reminder about our upcoming Ngā Iti Rearea Wānanga taking place this coming week at Te Hotu Manawa o Rangitāne Marae (Maxwell’s Line).

Dates & Times:

Thursday, 27th August: 8:45 am – 1:30 pm (Early finish due to Parent-Teacher Interviews)

Friday, 28th August: 8:45 am – 2:30 pm (Normal finish time)

Please note: Tamariki are not to arrive before 8:45 am on either day.

Drop-off & Pick-up Details: Please drop off and collect your tamariki from the front gate only. For safety and access reasons, please do not drive up to the marae.

What to Bring & Wear:

Clothing: Comfortable clothes that are easy to move in.
Gear: A water bottle. (Girls will also need to bring their poi and a belt).
Kai: Lunch will be provided for everyone, but we highly encourage tamariki to bring some extra snacks to keep their energy levels up throughout the day.

Netball Draw 17th August

Just a friendly reminder about the dress code for games:

– Players MUST be wearing the correct school PE uniform or their team uniform.
– School hoodies are not permitted to be worn during games.
– Students may wear a black thermal underneath their PE uniform if needed.
– If there is an issue with your child having the correct PE or team uniform, please come and see me so we can sort it out.
– Unfortunately, if a player arrives without the correct PE or team uniform, coaches will be instructed that they cannot play.

Ngā Iti Rearea Wānanga Reminder for Tomorrow & Friday (13th – 14th of August)

Tēnā tātou e te whānau o Ngā Iti Rearea,

Following the postponement of last week’s wānanga due to staff and student illness, our rescheduled wānanga will be taking place tomorrow and Friday (13th – 14th of August) at the marae. The tamariki have had plenty of reminders throughout the week, and all arrangements remain the same as previous wānanga.

Timings & Organisation:

Drop-off: Tamariki are permitted at the marae from 8:45 am at the earliest.

Pick-up:
Thursday: 3:00 pm
Friday: 2:30 pm
Drop-off & Pick-up Location (Maxwell’s Line): To help maintain a smooth traffic flow and ensure everyone’s safety, please drop off and collect your tamariki at the front gate on Maxwell’s Line only. We ask that whānau do not drive onto the property, as vehicle movement in the wrong direction creates traffic congestion and safety issues.

Lūsia ki Taulaga (Thursday): Any tamariki participating in Lūsia ki Taulaga tomorrow (Thursday) are still fully supported to attend that kaupapa.

What to Bring & Wear:

Clothing: Comfortable casual clothes.
Gear: A named water bottle, morning/afternoon snacks, and poi (for girls).

Kai: Lunch will be provided as usual.

7’s Rugby tournament in Whanganui cancelled tomrorow Wednesday 12th August

Unfortunately, due to a few schools being unable to attend the tournament, the Rugby 7s tournament has been cancelled.

Instead, our boys will be playing a practice match against Ross Intermediate here at school.

The game will kick off at 11:00am on our school field.

The boys will be told today what they need to bring and any other important information at today’s practice.

NEW Term 3 Manawatu Volleyball Social Development Programme

Manawatū Volleyball would like to invite our tamariki to take part in the Term 3 Intermediate Development Programme.

This fun and engaging six-week programme is designed to help players develop their skills, build confidence, and prepare for the upcoming Term 4 volleyball season.

It is a great opportunity for students of all abilities to learn, improve, and enjoy the game in a supportive environment.

We are holding a Girls’ Football Trial tomorrow at 2:00pm.

Please ensure the girls bring their PE uniform, football boots, and shin pads if they have them. If they don’t have boots or shin pads, they are welcome to borrow them from school.

The Girls’ Football Tournament will be held in Week 2 on Wednesday, 29th July, at Monrad Park.

As our Year 8 ākonga prepare for their transition to high school in 2027, we want to share the current secondary school enrolment dates. We strongly encourage our Year 8 whānau to get in early and begin the enrolment process as soon as possible.

To support you through this journey, we will be touching base with all Year 8 whānau at our Parent-Teacher Interviews in Week 6 to check on your enrolment progress and ensure all of our ākonga are set up for a smooth and successful transition.

We want to remind whānau that enrolments at Palmerston North Boys’ High School (PNBHS) and Palmerston North Girls’ High School (PNGHS) open tomorrow, Monday, 20th of July. 

Both of these secondary schools operate on a strict enrolment scheme. This means that if your tamaiti lives outside of their school zone, they will automatically be placed into a ballot system for acceptance.

Because of this, it is absolutely essential that you submit your enrolment applications before the closing dates. If you miss the deadline, your child will miss out on the ballot and the opportunity to attend these kura next year.

Please note the following critical dates for your calendars:

Applications Open: Monday, 20th July 2026 (Online applications available on their website from 8:00 am).

Monrad Tirohanga Rugby

We have a Rugby 7s Tournament coming up in Week 4, on Wednesday, 12th August. The tournament will be held at Cooks Gardens, Whanganui.

We will be entering both a Boys’ and Girls’ team.

Training Sessions:

Boys

Tuesdays at 11:00am (break time).
Sessions will run throughout Term 3.
Open to all boys who are interested.

Girls

Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00am (break time)

What to Bring
– Mouthguard (compulsory).
– Rugby boots.
– PE uniform or old clothes suitable for training.
Please note: School uniform must not be worn to training sessions.
