Learning Expo Open Evening – this Thursday!

Wed Sep 21 11:03am

Kia ora Monrad Tirohanga whānau,

As our major learning focus this term, our tamariki have been working through an Inquiry called “You Can Change The World / Nōu Tēnei Ao Mārama, Tā Mokoa!”

Through this Inquiry and Integrated Learning study, our ākonga (students) have been learning about the difference between inventions and innovations, how people have influenced change in the world, and the design process. For the main assessment of this Inquiry, our ākonga have been working on creating an invention of their own, to address an issue they have identified.

We have asked our students to come back to school from 5.30 – 6.30pm this Thursday, 22nd September to share their learning and invite you to come along and look through all of our classrooms to see the fantastic learning that has been taking place, and ask our students about their designs and creations. Who knows, you may like them so much you want to invest in some of them and get them to production stage?!

PNGHS Testing for Year 8’s – Tuesday 27 September, 8.45 am – 11.15 am at the Huia Centre.

Fri Sep 16 10:08am

E te whānau, ngā mihi maioha i roto i ngā tini āhuatanga o te wā. PNGHS are looking forward to welcoming current Year 8 students from Monrad Tirohanga as Year 9 students next year.

Due to the public holiday in remembrance of the Queen on Monday, 26 September. We have had to make changes to our Year 8 testing schedule. We will now be running all testing sittings on Tuesday, 27 September.

There will be testing for Monrad Tirohanga in the morning session:

Tuesday 27 September 8.45 am – 11.15 am at the Huia Centre.

It will be parents’/caregivers’ responsibility to ensure their child is dropped off outside the Huia Centre by 8.45 am. PNGHS will provide a bus to transport students back to school after testing is completed.

All Year 8 students will receive an email outlining the testing process this week. Please reassure students that this is not high-stakes testing. The testing results will NOT determine class placement at PNGHS next year. Instead, please encourage students to view the testing as an opportunity for us to build up a picture of each student’s strengths and learning needs and as an opportunity for our 2023 cohort to start familiarising themselves with our campus.

What to expect:

A Reading comprehension assessment
A getting to know you form to fill out
A morning tea break
A maths assessment

N.B. If a student requires additional support or special conditions for entrance testing, please contact Whaea Suzie Watling at s.watling@pnghs.school.nz

What to bring: A pen (or pencil), a drink, a snack, and masks are optional, and calculators are not permitted.

Where to go: Meet at the front doors of the Huia Centre at PNGHS at the beginning of the session (enter the school using the Huia St Entrance).

Schoolwide Lockdown

Tue Sep 13 09:50am

Mōrena e te whānau. This morning at approximately 8:10 am, we moved into lockdown.

There was a police chase in front of kura; unfortunately, the perpetrators ran through school and jumped the fences, resulting in the police coming on site. After 10 minutes, the police caught the perpetrators, and we ended the lockdown at 8:30 am.

The safety of our tamariki is our top priority, and we have sound systems in place in an emergency such as this. Our tamariki and kaiako reacted quickly and remained in class ‘locked down’ until a senior staff member went to the classrooms to tell everyone that it was safe to return outside.

We will spend time this morning going through each class and checking in on our tamariki and kaiako. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us directly at kura.

Tirohanga Bakes, Week 6

Fri Sep 02 10:39am

Kia ora whānau,

Tirohanga Bakes had a very successful first week in sales and production. As a group of bakers we recognize we had some issues with the firmness of some of our cookies. This is something that we are working on and will work on correcting during our next production run

Our products will be available to order via email from this Friday onwards through the weekend, with payment being made once your order has been confirmed. There will be a limited number of items for sale each week, so we will work on a first in first served basis. All products may contain gluten and dairy and are made in a food room that uses nuts. All items will be available to pick up from kura the following Wednesday afternoon. All the money we raise from our business venture will go towards our kura’s camp and back into our school. We appreciate your support of our business!

Sincerely from Tirohanga Bakes! 🙂

Our fundraiser Fun Run is happening this Friday from 1.15pm. All students at school that afternoon will be taking part. We encourage them to wear fancy dress for spot prizes. All students also need to bring their Sponsorship forms on Friday so these can be marked with the number of laps completed, prior to collecting the sponsored money. Unused Sponsorship forms also need to be returned. Thank you.
